Andrew "Muska" Muha

Andrew Muska Muha 81, "Muska", Central City, passed away on November 5th, 2018 at home. Born July 9th, 1937 in Shade Township, he was the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Halapin) Muha. Andrew was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael and John; and sisters, Mary Rogala, Ann Pasierb and Betty Baker. Also preceded in death by his in-laws, Sam and Susan Kubek. He was married on February 8th, 1964 and is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Mary Ann Kubek; sons, Andrew P. "Chipper" (Maxine), and Dr. Steven M.; grandchildren, Rebecca Anne, Nicholas Andrew and Jenna Elizabeth along with his little puppy, "Charlie". Other surviving in-laws include Ann Louise Napora and Michael and Donna Kubek along with many nieces and nephews that he loved and cherished. He was a 1956 graduate of Shade High School where he excelled in athletics. Upon receiving a football scholarship from the legendary Frank Kush, he graduated from Arizona State University in 1960. As an ROTC officer in 1960 his service to his country began with the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was involved during the Cuban Missile Crisis and The Bay of Pigs. Returning home in 1963 he became an educator in the Shade-Central City School District where he taught for 36 years. He coached football and track in his early years at Shade before becoming the Senior Class Advisor in 1973. For 25 years he and his students produced some of the most magical and memorable Homecomings at Shade. He retired in 1997. His leadership traits led him to many civic organizations as well. A member of the borough council he also once held the position of mayor of Central City. He was a member of the Central City Jaycees, TPA Post V Johnstown where at one time he served as Pennsylvania State President, Shade Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Award winner, Cambria/Somerset Counties Council of Governments, and the Shade-Central City Joint Authority. A member of the Central City Chamber of Commerce and "Man of the Year" in 2008, Central City VFW and Central City American Legion posts. He was a proud member of SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Greek Catholic Church in Central City and held many offices including the president. He will lie in state at the church and visitation will be held on Friday, November 9th at SS Peter and Paul Church, 149 Wheeler Street, Central City, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. where the funeral service will be sung at 7 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be on Saturday, November 10th at 10 a.m. with celebrants Very Rev. Protopresbyter Robert A. Buczak, Very Rev. John S. Brancho and Protodeacon Oleg Aminov. Committal SS Peter & Paul's Orthodox Cemetery. Graveside military rites by Central City VFW and Central City American Legion posts. The family wishes to thank the many people who helped them the last few years including all of his special caregivers. In lieu of flowers they request donations in his memory be made to the church or Windber Hospice. Robert F. Mulcahy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
