Antoinette "Toni"'s Story
Antoinette "Toni" Esther Bloom, age 83 of Montrose, PA, died May 5, 2017, at Robert Packer Hospital.
She was born February 6, 1934, in Central City, Somerset County, PA. Daughter of Samuel Francis and Frances Marie (Trimeloni) Andrew. She graduated from Shade Township High School in 1951.
Toni loved all things musical: she was in the Drum & Bugle Corps, Marching Band, and played the saxophone in the dance band at the psychiatric hospital where she worked. With her Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she shared music with children in Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania. She also taught close to 100 people how to play the piano during her lifetime. She belonged to the Montrose Music Club, she was an organist and choir director at Holy Name of Mary Church, belonged to the Montrose Education Association, and tutored homebound children. She was a Life Member of the American Legion Auxiliary & the National Education Society. She also belonged to the PTA, American Guild of Organists, PA Assoc. of Retired Teachers, and the Music Educators National Conference. While Toni was a member of the Binghamton German Club, she participated in German language choral competitions throughout New York State. Toni married Robert Dean Bloom, Sr., in 1957. They enjoyed music together, raised a family of four boys, and traveled extensively here and abroad. She and her husband Bob were predeceased by baby boy Francis Battista Bloom.
She is survived by her devoted husband and four sons: Thomas Anthony of Durham, NC; Robert Dean, Jr., his daughter Bianca Joy of Manhattan, NY., and Douglas Rockwell of Newark Valley, NY; Michael Aldo of Melbourne, FL; John Edward of Simpsonville, SC., his daughters Jennifer Marie & Elizabeth Bea, John's wife Diana and her children James Gurto, Robyn Caroline Chu, Madeleine Pearl Chu, and Madeleine's children Braiden Mathew, Milania Joy, and Valentina Chanelle Chu. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Leah Antoinette Coughenour (Richard Lee) of Albuquerque, NM; and a brother Samuel Francis (Rebecca Ann) Andrew of Tarentum, PA. Many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob became Toni's devoted caretaker for many years following her illness, and they resided with their son Robert Dean, Jr.
A Memorial Mass will take place Saturday, August 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Angels Chapel, 162 Wheeler Street, Central City, PA, 15926. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Central City, PA, at a later date.
