Charles W., 79, Johnstown, passed away July 20, 2017, at home surrounded by family. Born Dec. 16, 1937, Johnstown, son of the late Roy and Lenora (Shaw) Shaffer. Survived by his loving wife of 57 and a half years, Jean M. (Rucosky); children, Pattie Miller, and fiance, Jim Schetrompf, Johnstown; Dawn Smith, and husband, Jeff, Johnstown; and David Shaffer, Destin Fla.; grandchildren, Gary Miller, and wife, Julianne, Blairsville; Charlie, and significant other, Jess Carthew, Johnstown; Maggie McClintock, Johnstown; Jennifer Fontana, and husband, Vince, Fort Dix, N.J.; Jeffrey Smith, and fiancee, Ashley Davis, Mooresville, N.C.; Sydnie Shaffer, Destin, Fla.; and Tyler Nesmith, Destin, Fla.; great-grandson, Henry Fontana, Fort Dix, N.J.; brother, Roy Shaffer, and wife, Jolene, Johnstown; special cousins, Phoebe Reighard, Johnstown; Pat Sleek, and husband, Buck, Johnstown; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Charles graduated from Johnstown High, Class of 1955, where he and his wife went on their first date at senior prom. Afterwards, he joined the Army National Guard and retired from Bethlehem Steel. Later in life, Charles enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the simple joys of life, going to Myrtle Beach during the winter months, celebrating Christmas with his family and going to Rocky Gap. He was an expert marksman who enjoyed fishing/hunting and belonged to many gun and rod clubs. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or memorial service, and interment will be private at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West End Ambulance Services.
