"Berny", 81, Northern Cambria, passed away November 28, 2017, surrounded by her family at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown. Born November 22, 1936, in Posen, IL, the daughter of George and Sophie Biesiada. Bernadine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceded in death by husband, Walter A. Penksa, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage; an infant son; sisters, Adeline Janiec, Helen Baumann, Anna Luke and Cecile Biesiada; brother, Thaddeus Biesiada and great-grandsons, Gregory and Edward Lingenfelter. Survived by daughter, Marie, wife of Gregory Kirsch, Clymer; sons, Michael Penksa, husband of Michelle (Sapp), and William Bill Penksa, both of Northern Cambria; grandchildren, Rebecca (Ian) Lingenfelter, Alexander (Sarah) Kirsch, Claire Anne Kirsch, Aimee Kirsch, Michaela Penksa and Michael Penksa Jr.; and great-grandsons, John Lingenfelter, Maxwell and Thaddeus Kirsch. She will also be sadly missed by her faithful companion, dog Tippy. Bernadine was formerly employed as a secretary with Prudential Insurance before getting married and starting her family with Walter. Her family was then her priority as she devoted her life to raising her children, baking many dozens of cookies for them through the years. She passed on the traditions of holiday celebrations, including making Pysanky Easter Eggs. She had a gentle and kind spirit and touched many lives even during her months of illness. Member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Friends will be received from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Prince of Peace Chapel. Fr. Donald Dusza officiating. Committal, Holy Cross Cemetery.
