Donald's Story

Text size

87, passed away on December 24, 2017. He was born April 2, 1930, in Toronto, Canada.
Don had many loves in his life: his family, friends, hockey and golf. Although not necessarily in that order, it is safe to say he enjoyed life in his adopted town of Johnstown. His prowess on the ice rink and his many victories on the golf course, including winning the first National Father and Son Tournament in Pinehurst, have already been well-documented. His good-natured competitiveness and love of sport served him well during his long life. But it was Dons ability to see the best in each of us that brought out the best in everyone around him. His family, close friends and colleagues will remember him most, not for his personal achievements, but for his enthusiasm for life. He was kind, considerate, and unconditionally generous. He inspired his family and so many others with his magnanimous and always optimistic personality. Don will forever be in the hearts of his wife of 64 years, Jean; his three children and their spouses Jeff and Jane; Heather and Bill; Holly and Greg; his four grandchildren and their spouses; Lauren and Tyler; Kate and Jimmy; Jenny and Ali; and JD; and also his great granddaughter, Olivia. In remembrance of Don, his family asks in lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in his honor to the Sunnehanna Amateur Foundation, 1000 Sunnehanna Dr., Johnstown, PA 15905. Friends will be received at St. Clement Church, Lindberg Ave, Johnstown, Friday, January 5, 2018, from 10 am until time of services at 11:30 am, Father William Rosenbaum officiating.
