88, Beaverdale, passed away December 5, 2017 at the Richland Rehabilitation Center. Born August 16, 1929, son of Etta Marie Weyandt and David Theodore Knepper. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Galen; half sister, Pearl Yingling; stepfather, Pete Smith; and stepbrothers, Bernard and Peter. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Leta Dee (Williams); stepsister, Dorothy Carlson; children, Donald Lynn (Christine Wolfhope), Edward (Sharon Noon), Katherine Appleton (Charles), Missouri. Grandchildren, Amy Knepper, Lori Gramling (Matthew), Ryan (Erin Mazanek), Janine Ebach (Justin), Charles Appleton (Bailey Morris); great-grandchildren, Maura, Madison, Samuel, Easton, Emily, Ian, Charlotte, Judah, and Allie. His careers included coal mining, taking inventories for Acme Supermarkets, and supervising housekeeping for Mercy Hospital, Johnstown, retiring in 1987. After retiring, Donald volunteered to drive family and friends to appointments and shared his garden vegetables and baked goods. In 1996 the Buckhorn Grange #1119 named him the "Outstanding Area Citizen". He was appointed by the Summerhill Township Board of Supervisors to act as the representative to the Forest Hills Municipal Authority, resigning in 2017 at age 87. Donald was instrumental in seeing that a new bridge and sewers were installed on Howard Avenue. He was a self-taught carpenter, a gardener, an avid hunter through age 80, and a lifelong active member of the Beaverdale Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, serving as elder, board member, and Sunday school teacher. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at the Beaverdale Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on Sunday, January 21. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m., the memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Cards would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
