Doc, 89; Cover Hill; passed away October 29, 2017 at Richland Woods. Born September 5, 1928 in Franklin Boro., son of Polish Immigrants, Nicholas and Kathryn (Jurczyk) Moran. Preceded in death by parents; son, Michael A. Moran; his home town girl and coal miners daughter and wife, Margaret (Mino) Moran; sisters, Mary Schultz and Blanche Mider; and brother, Blaine E. Moran. Survived by loving children, John A. Moran, Johnstown; Joseph A. Moran married to the former Michelle Weyant, Johnstown; Dr. Mary Margaret Moran and partner Dr. Beth Moughan, Philadelphia; and Edward A. Moran and Lorraine Donahue, Johnstown; grandchildren, Danielle Nicole Robertson, Abigail Fay Moran and Sean Anthony Moran-Moughan; and great grandson, Charlie Robertson. A brother of Rose Baran of Johnstown. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A graduate of Franklin High School. A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He went on to earn his B.S. from IUP and then his Masters and PhD at the University of Pittsburgh. Former School Superintendent for Conemaugh Valley and Northern Cambria School Districts, and highly respected by his peers for his expertise in public school finance, curriculum planning and development of school building construction. A talented and skilled teacher, who touched the lives of hundreds of children in a positive way. He was very proud of children he taught who became successful in their chosen fields. A member of the Church of the Transfiguration Conemaugh, where Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Robert C. Hall. Committal will take place at Assumption Cemetery, where VFW Post 155 Ritual Team will perform military honors. Friends received Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to the Cover Hill Volunteer Fire Company at 985 Remington Drive Johnstown, PA 15902.
