Emil F., 98, Northern Cambria, formerly of Nicktown, passed away July 22, 2017, at Golden Living Center, Hastings. Born June 5, 1919, in Heilwood, son of James and Mary (Kuchner) Kalister. Preceded in death by parents; stepmother, Agnes (Lestarchik) Kalister; and first wife of 44 years, Josephine (Galicznski) Kalister, who died in 1992. Survived by wife, Virginia A. Merise-Kalister, Northern Cambria. Member of Prince of Peace Church, Carrolltown American Legion, and Barnesboro VFW. He was a U.S. Army Air Force staff sergeant veteran, stationed in Burma, who received a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and a citation from President Harry S. Truman. Former owner of the Blue Goose Inn, Nicktown. Employed by Barnes & Tucker Coal Co. Retired from the Pennsylvania Game Commission with 27 years of service as a deputy game protector. He loved farming on his Barr Township farm included raising 100 pulled hereford cows, hunting, fishing, trapping and picking ginseng. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Prince of Peace Church, Father Donald Dusza, officiating. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery. Military honors by local veterans organizations. A special thank you to Carol Shook, Conemaugh Hospital, Golden Living Center and Miners Hospital for the excellent care given to Emil throughout his illness.
