Thomas, Eugene S., 91, Windber, passed away Jan. 11, 2018 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Aug. 28, 1926 in Paint Township. Son of Miles Thomas and Ethel (Rummel) Thomas-Hunter. Preceded in death by parents, step-father William Hunter, great-grandson Hunter Michael Penrod, brother-in-law Maurice Newt Ott and son-in-law Dennis Shaffer. Survived by loving wife Elizabeth and daughters Linda Shaffer, Bonnie, wife of Dick Penrod, and son Gene ET and girlfriend Lori Walylko, all of Windber. Grandchildren Brenda, wife of Jeff Conjelko, Michael Shaffer and wife Jessica, Benjamin and wife Rebecca, Heather, wife of Jaime Bloom, Jessica Sesack and boyfriend Joshua Bunting. Great-grandchildren Dyllan, Cole, Kaden, Trevor, Elijah, Kaitlyn, Amelia, Piper, Isabella, Joshua, and Noah. Also friends Danny and Darlene Wentz. Gene and Liz celebrated 66 years of marriage on Nov. 17, 2017. Gene enjoyed working on his antique cars and showing them off. He spent many hours telling and showing his grandchildren how to maintain their cars, pounding nails, dig ditches and loving each other. He had many jobs in his life but his favorite was carpentry. He worked 23 years as a union carpenter for Berkebile Brothers. Gene retired in 1991. After retirement he bought his first antique car and that became his new favorite hobby. He was an Army Veteran. Member Rummel Church of the Brethren, Windber. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 pm Sunday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber where funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday. Pastor Joe Brown officiating. Interment Berkey Cemetery, Windber. Military rites by Windber VFW Post 4795, will be done at the funeral home.
