, 94, of Northern Cambria, passed away September 13, 2017, with his loving wife of 69 years Helen (Hamady) Drotar by his side at Amber Springs at Laurelwood, Johnstown. Born June 26, 1923, in Cymbria, son of the late Andrew and Mary (Visnoski) Drotar. He is survived by his wife Helen; son Francis (Carol Borsock) of Dauphin; two daughters Denise (Robert) Rebuck of Sunbury, and Mary Ellen (John) Glass of Asburn, Va; eight grandchildren, Gregory (Kathy) Drotar, Amy Drotar, Andrew Drotar, Benjamin Rebuck, Lindsey Rebuck, Donald Glass, Jacqueline Glass, and Alexa Glass; and two great grandchildren, Nicholas Drotar and Carlos Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Michael, Joseph, John, Helen Mondock, Julia Ferrance, Mary Bobby, Ann Drotar, and Steven.
Francis was a remarkable man. He started working at the Barnesboro Shirt Company (Phillips Jones Van Huesen) in 1940. After three years of service in the Army (starting March 16, 1943), he came home to Barnesboro to continue his job at the factory until his retirement in 1985. There, he quickly got promoted to factory manager and served as president of the factory union. During his factory span from 1940-1985, he also worked as the Justice of the Peace for Cambria County (1954-1970), a community tax preparer, and a Notary Public until retirement. Francis was also an active member of Saint John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church. Francis was a handyman and very proud building his own home, working on it every day after work and weekends. He became an innovator in his neighborhood when he chose to outfit his home with oil rather than gas heating, an unheard of new technology at the time.
Francis was a very dedicated husband and father; he and Helen would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this September 28. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where Panachida will be recited at 9:15 A.M. Mass of Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church. Committal St John Byzantine Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations. www.longcontresfuneralhomes.com
