George E., 93, Portage, passed away Aug. 12, 2017, at Amber Hills, Ebensburg. Born July 19, 1924, in Adams Township, son of George and Ethel (Platt) Yusko. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Ray McVicker; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Yusko, Joyce Yusko and Jean McVicker; and nephew, Jeff Yusko. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Dorothy (McVicker), whom he married on March 13, 1946; a son, Gary, married to former Paula O'Donnell; and a daughter, Sharon, married to David Kiel, both of Portage. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Joshua Yusko, and fiancee, Tanya Eppley, and Justin Kiel, and fiancee, Mary Plunkett; and his great-grandchildren, Shawn Yusko and Dallas Kiel. He also is survived by his brothers, Glenn Yusko and Wayne (Audrey) Yusko, both of Portage, and Charles Yusko, Victoria, Texas; a brother-in-law, Delmas (Rosemary) McVicker, Johnstown; and many numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and usher. Served in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) at Blue Knob prior to World War II, serving on the destroyer John W. Weeks that took part in the major naval battles in the Pacific, his ship being attacked by Japanese Kamikaze. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper. He and his wife camped every summer at Ridge Campground at Lake Raystown, where he had a special friend, Park Ranger Donald Donaldson. He worked as a welder for over 40 years for Leman Machine Co., Portage. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Portage, the Rev. Art Black. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial to Crichton McCormick Park, Portage. A special thanks to the staff of Amber Hill and Asera Care Hospice for their loving support and care.
