(Jim), 76, a resident of Williamsport PA, formerly of Dunlo, PA, passed away at UPMC Susquehanna on Friday Dec. 8, 2017 with family at his side.
Jim was born in Windber, Pa on Nov. 14, 1941 the son of John and Ruth (Long) Morris. He was a 1959 graduate of Beaverdale-Wilmore High School, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1961 until 1968. He was a coal mine foreman and a member of the United Mine Workers. He was a member of the former Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Dunlo, Holy Spirit Parish and later St. Michael's Parish. Jim was an active member of the Dunlo-Llanfair post of the American Legion, the Dunlo Rod & Gun Club (at one time serving as vice-president) and a member of the Slovak American Citizens Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid sportsmanhunting, fly fishing, ice fishing, tying flies, canoeing. He had a life-long love of the outdoors. His appreciation for music led him to play in a band, Brookside, with some of his siblings. He and his wife, the former Vivien R. Yonkoski, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary July 18, 2017. They were married while he was stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. In addition, he is survived by four children and their spouses; Kraig M. (Linda) Morris of McElhattan, Kelly M. (John) Pellegrino of Williamsport, Gretchen A. (Benjamin) Brubaker of Homer City, James F. (Laura) Morris of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; nine grandchildren, Joseph and Hannah Morris, Kaitlyn and Nicholas Pellegrino, Damian, Hayden and Cassandra Michael, John and Elizabeth Morris, six siblings, John, Paul, Edward, Margaret, William and David. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Adelaide Morris, and brother, Thomas Morris. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Parish, 751 Locust St., St. Michael, PA on Jan. 5, 2018 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Brian Warchola officiating, followed by burial at Corpus Christ Cemetery in Dunlo, PA.
