Joan's Story

Joanie Louise (Hughes) Wozny passed away peacefully Saturday 12-16-2017 with her loving family by her side @ home in Wixom Michigan. Joanie was born in Brooklyn New York on 1-3-1960, the daughter of Raphael and Joan (Brehm) Hughes. Joanie grew up in Hazlet New Jersey graduating from St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel New Jersey then she attended & graduated from West Virginia University in Morgantown West Virginia with a BA in Physical Education. Preceded in death by parents Joan in 1999, Raphael in 2007 & brother Steve in 2015. Survived by loving husband of 33 + years Frank (formerly of Windber), their children: son Frank & wife Teri (Burt) Wozny with grandchildren Paige Joan & Frank Gregory in Hartland, Michigan, daughter Kimberly (Wozny) & husband Jeremy Cheaney with grandchildren Ava Madelyn, Patrick Raphael, Charlotte Louise, & Grace Elizabeth in Hartland, son Matthew & wife Jenna (Schiavi) Wozny in Northville Michigan. Relatives in Windber include: brother in law Dave & wife Cathy (Tallyen) Wozny with nephew David Wozny in Florida & niece Heather Wozny, sister in law Mary Ann (Wozny) & husband Gerald Mickel in Chambersburg with nephews Clayton & Daniel Mickel in Windber, brother in law John Wozny & wife Holly in Windber, sister in law Nancy Paseba in Windber, niece Nicole Wozny in Nanty Glo, niece Amber Wozny in Johnstown, & nephew Jacob Wozny in Windber, special Aunts Betty (Hancharick) Spaid in Portage, Irene (Hancharick) DiPangrazio in Strongsville Ohio and also cousins in area: John & Joan Hromack & family, Pete Kish, Kristine (Kush) & Kevin Michaels & family, Alice with sons John & family & Thomas Repko, Lillian Tokarsky with sons Michael & Tim & their families, and Barbra Wozny all in Windber, Kathleen (Kush) McCreary & family in North Cambria, Bob & Nancy (Hoffer) Hromack in Milton Delaware, and Diane (Tokarsky) & Steve Moore & family in Mechanicsburg. Joanie loved being a mother & grandmother, enjoyed life with her family to the fullest. She was involved in all aspects of their lives including being a long time Walled Lake Braves cheerleading coach & booster, long time Walled Lake Western High School football booster and party planner for family & others. Her working career included working at American Blinds & Wallpaper in Plymouth Michigan. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be 1-5-2017 10AM @ St. Williams Catholic Church in Walled Lake Michigan followed by a luncheon to celebrate her life @ One Under Banquet Hall in Livonia Michigan. All funeral arrangements were provided by Lynch & Sons in Walled Lake.
