Joanne's Story

Joanne May Schuster (Bridges) (nee Helman), 77, died of complications of heart disease on Sunday, October 15, 2017 in Margate, Florida. She was born on October 13, 1940 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to John and Alveretta Helman (nee Gill). In 1961, she married Edward R. Schuster, Sr. Together they raised their four children: Edward Raymond Schuster, Jr. of Goochland, VA; Edyie (William) Harris of Coral Springs, FL; Eric Schuster of Idaho Falls, ID; and Erin (Andrea) Schuster of Pittsburgh PA. Joanne was preceded in death by her loving husband and her brother Ron Helman. She was a wife and homemaker and later a tireless working mother. She was particularly known for her talent for baking, and for the rendering of distinctive and cherished ceramics pieces. Joanne enjoyed league bowling and travel and was accomplished in the fabric arts of sewing and crocheting. She is survived by her children as well as by her sister Nancy Slagle, Houston, TX; her brothers-in-law Richard Schuster, St. Louis, MO and Robert (Charlene) Schuster, Scottsdale, AZ; her sister-in-law Mary Helman; her grandchildren: Tyler Eric Voltz, Hannah Catherine Schuster, and Edward Raymond Schuster III; and her three great-grandchildren: Ella May Voltz, Ophelia Ivy Schuster, and Hendrix Lee Vernon. Following cremation, interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, (1530 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, PA 15902).
