John's Story

, 55, of Sinking Spring, passed away unexpectedly June 20, 2017, in the Reading Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Marion Kwiatkowski, infant sister Marie, and brother Gregory. John's education started at Johnstown Vo Tech, on to the University of Pittsburgh where he received a BA in economics, then Bowling Green University where he received his Master's in economics, and finally graduate work at Penn State University and participation work in education programs. He was a Regional Manager for Barnes & Noble for 23 years. He first joined the company in 1993 as a full-time bookseller with the Penn State Bookstore system. He was quickly promoted to manager at the Berks Bookstore Location. After successfully managing this location for three years, he was promoted to district manager for 11 bookstores in the Penn State system. In 1997, John was promoted to regional manager, overseeing additional operations throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey. John was an avid golfer where he played with a group at Green Acres every Sunday morning and in Florida during the spring, and fisherman, having tested the water of Lake Erie. He supported various charities and events generously. John belonged to numerous clubs and organizations in the Reading and Johnstown areas. He enjoyed spending time with friends at Camp Good Hope and was active in the Brownstown Fire Hall and Mt. Pleasant Fire Company. John had a special love for the Penn State Football Program and the Pittsburgh Penguins. John's personality, hard work, and dedication was a very important part of his resume. He was a faithful man in his religious beliefs, and sincere and humble in his manner and ways. He touched on many lives and set an example to be followed, remaining up to his final departure. He will be greatly missed, although his memories and examples will with stand the test of time. Farewell my friend, the friends you have made will always remember you as a friend. John is survived by two sisters: Carol Ann, wife of James Bezek; and Christine Lipsack; sister-in-law, Cleta: three nephews: Greg Jr. (Colleen), Joe (Amy), and Tyler; one niece, Gabrielle, one great nephew, Daniel; and one great niece, Kiersten. Words of Remembrance will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 5 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
