96, of Johnstown, died on January 7, 2018 at home. Born March 19, 1922 in Mt. Carmel PA, son of Walter and Mary (Griglak) Bercilosky. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Walter Bercilosky, infant brother Joseph James Birch, and sister Marie Bercilosky. Joseph is survived by children Alexandra, Dennis, Marian, twin daughters Anita and Benita, Karen and Joanne. He will be sadly missed by his long time caregiver and guardian Ms. Sandra Stevanus. In 1942, Joseph enlisted in the US Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign until he was honorably discharged on Nov. 11, 1945. He was awarded the Asiatic Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. In 1949 Joseph graduated from Dickinson College-Carlisle with a Bachelor of Science in Pre Med. While working for the PA Dept. of Health from 1958-1966, Joseph earned his Masters Degree from Michigan University in the fields of environmental engineering and public health administration. He then worked in the coal industry as a Conservation Director for Barnes and Tucker Coal Co. Barnesboro. He was an Environmental Engineer Consultant for Neilean Engineering and Svonovac Coal. Joseph was a life member of the VFW, Catholic War Veterans, and Knights of Columbus. He was a past member of the Moose and Eagles Organization. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am, Friday, January 12, 2018 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905. Very Rev. Mark S. Begly.
