Judith's Story

Text size

Judith L. Kristoff, 78, of Roanoke passed away peacefully at home with family at her side, on November 3, 2017. She was born August 21, 1939 in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of John H. and Anna D. (Lisina) Michna. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Marie Gaydos and Nancy Trapanotto, all of Johnstown.
Surviving are her husband Francis of 58 years, and daughters Cynthia Kirkwood (Craig) of Richmond, Francene Kristoff (John Turner) of Roanoke, Deborah Brokaw (Matthew) of Richmond; and son, Gregory of Covington; and sister; Shirley Kutchman; and brother-in-law, Joseph Trapanotto; 5 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Judith was a graduate of Johnstown High School. She graduated from the Roanoke Memorial School of Nursing in Roanoke. While raising a family of four she worked part time at Carilion Memorial, both in the hospital ward and later as an attending private duty nurse, prior to retiring in 2001.
She enjoyed nursing and was an inspiration and guiding beacon for her children, as they pursued their careers. She loved and relished her grandchildren never missing a birthday call. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and very supportive and active in the many seasonal functions of the Womens Club. Her empathy for the less fortunate and needy found her volunteering her services at the Salem Clothes Closet, RAM House, Red Cross, and Salem VAMC.
The family is grateful and thank the staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Center (Lewis Gale) and Good Samaritan Hospice for their overwhelming support and compassionate care during her illness.
Visitation will be held at Oakeys South Roanoke Chapel on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, located on Turner Road in Salem. Rev. Ken Shuping will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Cancer Center or Good Samaritan Hospice. On-line Condolences can be made at www.oakeys.com
