Marilyn W. Melithoniotes was the daughter of Jim and Marian Walter, of Johnstown. She was a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1964, and the University of Pittsburgh, where she graduated with a B.A. in English with the class of 1975. Marilyn and her husband John frequently visited the Johnstown area to see her parents, Jim and Marian. Marilyn's first job was with Mercy Hospital in Johnstown, as a laboratory technician. Her career included several positions on the Administrative Staff of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prior to working at MIT, Marilyn was a Research Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School's Hematology Department and SUNY Buffalo's Department of Molecular Biology. Reading, classical music and bird watching were her favorite pursuits. Marilyn died suddenly in early October while being treated for Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.
