Mary Ann's Story
TSCHACHLER Mary Ann, 85, Johnstown, died peacefully at home on July 18, 2017. Born on July 17, 1932, in Dunlo; daughter of Peter and Mary (Mihalick) Korch. Beloved sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph; and daughter, JoAnne. Survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Louis C.; sons Louis P., Harrisburg; Joseph (Judy), Wake, VA; and David (Margaret), West Chester; and grandson, Corey, Harrisburg. Also survived by a sister, Helen, Stow, Ohio; brothers Peter (Barbara), Northern Cambria; John (Joan), Mechanicsburg; and Bernard (Elena), Alamogordo, New Mexico; and many in-laws, nephews and nieces. Mary Ann graduated from the former Adams Twp. High School in 1950 and the Conemaugh Memorial School of Nursing in 1953, earning multiple scholastic honors. She worked at Montefiore, Pittsburgh, and Latrobe hospitals, but spent most of her nursing career working as an emergency room trauma nurse at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, from which she retired in 1995. Mary Ann spent retirement volunteering her time and talents at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church and the Johnstown Community Arts Center. She loved RV camping, attending Jayco rallies in many states; and generally spending time with her wonderful friends in the Wise Owls camping group. She also loved camping at the beach with her family. Mary Ann was a faithful Catholic and parishioner of Our Mother of Sorrows who attended daily Mass for many years. She served as a Eucharistic minister, lector, and was a member of the Liturgy of Hours group.The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mary Anns many wonderful caregivers too many to mention - but who include Drs. Shriram Sirsikar, Zeeshan Khahwani, Zannab Jalal and Assad Ullah, and Dr. Ullahs wife, Anam; Mary LeRoy from Conemaugh Home Health; Ginger, Theresa and all from Windber Hospice who cared for her; and, Karen Arcurio and the entire emergency room staff at Conemaugh Memorial. Heartfelt thanks, also, to her many relatives, dear and long-time friend Marianne Spada, and many other special friends for the cheerful visits and phone calls to offer encouragement and support. There is no viewing at the request of the deceased. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Very Rev. Mark S. Begly. The family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
