Mercedes Englehart Pryce

Events

94, passed away on Saturday April 6, 2019 while residing at McCullough Place, an assisted living facility in Westmont. She was born in Johnstown, PA on July 5, 1924, the daughter of Reginald and Mildred Kress Parsons. She graduated from Westmont High School in 1942 and earned her registered nurse degree at the former Mercy Hospital Nursing School. She served as a Cadet nurse at St. Alban's Naval Hospital on Long Island during WWII and later became a Pennsylvania Nursing Home Inspector. While home from St. Alban's, she met her Navy officer husband Harry A. Englehart, Jr. of Ebensburg. The couple married in 1945 in Dallas and lived in Pittsburgh, Hartford, and San Diego before settling in Ebensburg where they raised four children to whom she devoted a lifetime of love and care. Known to all as "Merc," she deployed her spirited kindness to make fast friends everywhere, especially with members of the Cambria County Chapter of the Retired Nurses Association and the members and staff of Sunnehanna Country Club. She enjoyed playing golf in her retirement - once won a first-place trophy - and she was an avid bridge player. Mercedes was also a member of the Presbyterian Church in Westmont. Mercedes married Robert Seese of Windber in 1993 and, following his death, married John W. (Jack) Pryce of Ebensburg in 1997. Her beloved Jack died last summer at the age of 101. Mercedes is preceded in death by husbands Harry, Robert and Jack; by her brother Richard Parsons; and by her eldest daughter Carol Scott. She is survived by son Hud Englehart of Chicago, IL, by daughters Nancy Snyder of Bowie, MD, and Joan Rodriguez of Cumming, GA; by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and by dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins residing coast to coast. A service to commemorate Mercedes' life will be held at a later date in May. The family requests that remembrances of Mercedes be sent to the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra or the Westmont Presbyterian Church.

So very sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother and my Godmother. Our parents were great friends back in the day maybe they can reunite in heaven. It is so hard to lose their generation. May peace be with her.

So sorry to hear of Merc’s demise. I have many memories of her and the Englehart family while growing up in Ebensburg.
Our mother was one of her fellow bridge club members. What a great group of woman they were.
The core of Ebensburg in their heyday. An end of an era. God bless them all.
