88, Northern Cambria, passed away December 31, 2017, at Miners Medical Center, Hastings. Born September 16, 1929, in Watkins, the son of Arthur and Esther (Snyder) Conner. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Harlith and Donald; and sisters, Vista, Vivian and Valeria. Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Marie (Amateis) Conner; children, Paula Conner, Northern Cambria; Brian Conner (Jan Manson), Frederick, MD; Jennifer (Daniel) Kirsch, Northern Cambria; and Patricia Conner (Nicole Gardill), Monroeville; grandchildren, Rhea (Jack) Pounds, Scott Bradford, Nicholas (Clara) Conner, Jesse Conner, Matthew, Shanna, and Amy Kirsch; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Emma and Samuel. Brother of Phyllis (James) Whited, Northern Cambria. US Army Veteran of the Korean War and member of Spangler American Legion Post 569 and VFW Post 7503. Merle was an electrician by trade and worked for Pelburn Electric in Maryland where he took part in the electrical installation for Goddard Space Flight Center in the early years of space exploration. He was the co-owner/operator of Conners Corner Bar & Restaurant, was the proprietor of Conner Electric, was the co-owner of former Spangler Hardware and worked many years as the Maintenance Supervisor for Northern Cambria School District from where he retired. Life Member of Spangler Fire Company and member of Spangler Recreation Commission. A faithful member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder in the church community and previous Clerk of Session. Merle was devoted to his family, his wife, children and grandchildren who brought him his greatest joys. He will be deeply missed by all. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria. Pastor Marty Cartmell officiating. Committal, Holy Cross Cemetery. Military honors by local veterans organizations.
