Pauline's Story

Text size

Pauline passed away with peace and grace Wednesday December 6th 2017, her son George by her side.

Pauline was a bright, spirited and creative woman enjoying a full and many faceted life. She was born and raised in Johnstown. She attended the University of Pittsburgh, enjoyed playing tennis, and played the violin for the Johnstown Philharmonic, and though she had to decline, she was invited to become a member of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic.

Throughout her life she pursued her love of arts, crafts and books, with one of her favorite memories being her position as a librarian for Waldenbooks in the 1940s.

In 1950 she married the love of her life, Louis Contakos enjoying many successful business ventures together from bars and restaurants in Johnstown and New Rochelle, NY to British European Auto Parts in Cocoa, Florida.

She and Louis retired in 1993. But never one to be idle, Pauline was an active member of the League of Women Voters, Cocoa Beach Women's Club, Cape Canaveral Hospital Auxiliary for 41 years, Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, and a founding member of St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Melbourne, FL.

During her tenure with the Cocoa Beach Women's Club and the Cape Canaveral Hospital Auxiliary she held many positions to which she gave her time and talents.

Though we will miss her she has now reunited with Louis and other family and friends.

Services were held at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Melbourne, Florida on Wednesday, December 13.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Johnstown.
