Richard Paul's Story

Richard Paul Karcher, age 86, passed away 01/29/2018 at home, where he resided with his daughter Deborah and "son and best buddy" Donald Miller. Born in 1931 in Johnstown PA, he was the son of Bernard and Mary (Seth) Karcher, and husband of beloved wife Deloris (LaGana), who preceded him in death in 1998. Richard was an Army veteran and served during the time of the Korean War. He was a general foreman, retiring from Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown Pa, then worked, until his second retirement for the DEP in Harrisburg PA, where he was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the State of Pennsylvania.He was a 4th degree with the Knights of Columbus, belonging to the Bishop J.W.Shanahan Council in Harrisburg, where he held the position of Treasurer. He was a dedicated Knight, and received recognition awards for both outstanding service in his recruiting efforts and as Warden
for District 49. After moving to Annville, he also joined the K of C council, at his Church, St. Paul the Apostle. Richard enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and swimming and could build or fix anything. He was a most kind and generous man, never hesitating to help anyone in need. He lived his life in quiet testimony to his strong and unwavering faith in God. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by brothers Bernard and Regis, and grandson Donald Jr. He is also survived by son Robert, Ambridge PA, sister Gail (Harold) Smyder, New Florence PA, grandchildren Daylina (Trace) FL, Dachelle (Wesley) FL, Davina, WV, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special thanks for all of the prayers that assisted Richard in a peaceful passage, healthcare provided by the LVAMC, and the kind, compassionate and dignified care given by our friend Audrey, Michelle with Right at Home, and Danni with Compassionate Care Hospice.Viewing to be held 2-4 and 6-8 on Friday Feb. 2nd at Kreamer Funeral Home, Annville PA,and Mass of Catholic burial at 12 noon on Saturday Feb 3rd, at St Paul the Apostle Church,Annville PA. A rosary service will be held on Friday at 4PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg PA, at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Richard's name to Compassionate Care Hospice, Camp Hill PA or the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, Wellesley Hills MA.
