Robert's Story

Robert Lee Ross, 78, died in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, surrounded by family. Born on January 2, 1940, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Daniel Ross and Blodwyn (Wherry) Chapman. He grew up in Beavedale, Pennsylvania and graduated from Beaverdale Wilmore High School in 1957. After high school he joined the Navy and served 23 years. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He worked for Southland for 8 years and Civil Service for 15 years. He married Karen Lee Flynn on June 5, 1965. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Lee (Flynn) Ross; three children, Daniel Lee Ross, Brenda Lee Varner, and Christina Lee Ross; three grandchildren, Nicole Lee Karlins, Aaron Lee Varner, and Raven Lee Varner; one great-granddaughter, Leah Grace; and five siblings, Richard, John, William, Clair, Mildred, and Dorothy. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Darlene Chapman and Ethel Peebles. He was a member of the Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
