73, St. Benedict, passed away February 10, 2018. Born January 7, 1945 on Orthodox Christmas, in Spangler, PA. Son of Peter and Mary (Fuseck) Gresh. Preceded in death by parents; former wife Virginia Ginger (Fox) Gresh; sister, Martha Myers and brother, Peter Gresh. Survived by wife Kathryn (Fowler) Gresh, St. Benedict; son, Ronald, Lititz, PA; daughter, Renee Henry, St. Benedict; son Derek, Ebensburg; step-son, Patrick Dow, Austin, PA; step-daughter, Callie Dow, Manchester, PA; loving grandchildren, Devon, Jacob and Jade Henry, Finn Gresh and several step-grandchildren. Brother of Lorraine Gormley, Pittsburgh, PA and Barbara Hansen, Torrence, CA. Ron was proud of his heritage and a longtime miners advocate. Having worked as an underground miner and foreman, he saw the need for improvements in miners safety and health conditions in coal mines. He joined the US Bureau of Mines in 1970 and worked many positions in his effort to improve safety and health conditions. Ron served as a member of National Mine Rescue and recovery unit and was a Mine Rescue Instructor for many years and retired from the Mine Safety and Health Administration In 2001. Following retirement Ron worked as an Outreach Worker for miners in the Black Lung Coalition Program for the Altoona Hospital. Later Ron kept active operating Gresh Property Services with his son Derek. Ron was an active member of the St. Benedict Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder for many years and enjoyed singing in the Choir. Ron also enjoyed hunting and fishing and most outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed the Sunday dinners at home and holidays when all the kids would be home, also attending all the kids and grandkids events and activities. At Rons request there will be no viewing. A brief service will be held by Pastor Marty Cartmel at the St. Benedict Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at Noon. Interment, St. Josephs Cemetery, St. Benedict. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the St Benedict Presbyterian Church.
