Thomas's Story

69, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. He was born on January 31, 1949 in Johnstown, PA to the late Paul and Lucy Malchesky. Tom graduated Portage Area High School in 1966. He was a three-sport (football, baseball and basketball) standout athlete. He received his Associates Degree in Electronics. Tom became a Senior Designer for IBM and retired after working 26 years. Mr. Malchesky was very involved in his Catholic faith. He was an Altar Boy at both St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church where he was also baptized. He served as a trustee for the Paul & Lucy Malchesky Annual Scholarship Fund. Mr. Malchesky was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Malchesky was a well-respected baseball Coach in East Meck Youth Sports and throughout Charlotte. He loved to fish. He was full of life, always made people laugh, a great mentor and always did without so that his children could have what they needed. Tom attended every single game for all of his children, never missing one. He was very involved and supportive in each of their lives. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren carry on the family tradition of being active in sports. Mr. Malchesky is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara (Plummer) Malchesky; children, Tommy, Tina, Jason (Jennifer) and Jeff (Geisha); grandchildren, Nikolas, Logan, Triston, Bryce, Hayden, Holden, Haleigh, Jordan and Megan; sister, Joan Dorman (Lee) and brother, Paul Malchesky (Carol). A visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home in Portage, PA and again on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 9:00am until 9:45am. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:00am at Holy Family Parish, Father Thomas Stabile, T.O.R celebrant. Burial to immediately follow at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery. The family requests that monetary tributes be made to the Malchesky Family.
