88, of North Huntingdon died peacefully Sunday January 14, 2018 at home. He was born June 26, 1929, in New York City a son of the late John and Verna (Matava) Simkovic. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a superintendent for US Steel Homestead Works. He was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in North Huntingdon. He was a Staff Sargent in the Air Force having served during the Korea War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW 781, of Irwin; the American Legion 359, of Irwin and the Italian Miners Society, of Hahntown. Thomas was a 1956 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Dolores Pinna and a brother John Simkovic. Tom appreciated the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. He was a loving husband and father, he was selfless and generous. Surviving are his wife of 58 years Dolores (Owen) Simkovic; five children Tom Simkovic and his wife, Lauren, of Jeannette, Mark Simkovic, of New Cumberland, Matthew Simkovic Sr. and his wife, Michele, of Irwin, Susan Coyne and her husband, Marty, of Jacksonville, FL, Stephen Simkovic, of Greensburg; seven grandchildren Tom and Tim Simkovic, Matthew Jr. and Madison Simkovic, Patrick and Veronica Coyne and Owen Simkovic; two sisters Carol Nelson and her husband, Dr. Charles, of Greenville, NC, Maryclaire Furman and her husband, Edward, of Johnstown and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received 2to4 & 6to8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ott Funeral Home Inc. 805 Pennsylvania Avenue Irwin. Parting prayers will be held 9:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles. The family wishes to thank the Grane Hospice, especially Neal for the care and compassion they extended to Tom. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Westmoreland County Community Food Bank 100 Devonshire Drive Delmont PA 15626.
