Valeria T. "Val," 94, Johnstown, died March 17, 2017, at the Lutheran Home of Johnstown. Born April 29, 1922, in Johnstown, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Hiti. Preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Jennie Hiti; sister, Sr. Mary Lawrence, ASC; and son-in-law, David "Ziggy" Zeigler. Val was the last surviving member of the Hiti family. Survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Andrew Podplesky; son, Stephen Podplesky, and fiancee, Kimberly Speck Free, Johnstown; daughter, Donna Zeigler; granddaughters, Kristen, wife of Justin Blanding, Pittsburgh, and Kayla Zeigler, Johnstown; and great-granddaughter, Valairia Blanding. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, where she was a member of Christian Mothers and made pierogis at the church. She loved to play pinochle with her regular pinochle group and also enjoyed crocheting and baking. There will be no visitation for Val, however, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Father Bernard Karmanocky, OFM. Committal will take place at Grandview Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be directed to Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries of Johnstown, in memory of Val.
