John J., 94, Richland Township, died July 3, 2017, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born Nov. 8, 1922, in Johnstown, son of John B. and Mary (Hopey) Romanko. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Michael and Charles; sisters, Mary Dubosky, Elizabeth Romanko and Anna Ondreyik; and a brother and sister in infancy. Survived by wife, former Mary Dubay; children, Robert (Pamela Guy), Coos Bay, Ore.; Mary Ann (James Spontak), Etters; Joan (Thomas Hoenninger), Blue Bell; David (Tamara Nicely), Hurricane, W.Va.; and Monica (Thomas Papuga), Johnstown. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Brother of Paul (Frances Nazick), Johnstown. He was a member of Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church; GCU Lodge 625, where he was a former athletic director for District 4; and Conemaugh/Franklin American Legion. John enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, bowling and the art of painting pysanky eggs. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Henderson Funeral Home-East Hills, 2503 Bedford St., where Parastas will be sung at 7:30 pm. Funeral service will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday with Panachida being sung at the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Father Robert F. Oravetz, celebrant. Interment, Holy Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made to Holy Trinity Church, Windber Hospice, or Arbutus Park Manor.
