Portage, PA - ANDERSON - Barry P., 78, Portage, died July 1, 2025. Born March 17, 1947, in Johnstown, the son of the late Paul D. and Hazel (McQuillen) Anderson. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane (Litzinger); daughters, Lindsay Anderson, and husband Zach Sutphin, of Illinois, and Nikki Anderson and Ali Rahimtula; and grandchildren: Kate and Maggie Sutphin, and Sara, David and Aiden Rahimtula. Brother of Sylvia Kormanik, of Allentown, PA, and Linda Caligiure, of Blairsville, PA. Also surviving are in-laws, Ronald and Lida Hood, and nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Adrian) Hertig, Brian (Angela) Hood, David (Gina) Kormanik, and Mark Kormanik. Barry retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he worked as a train engineer for 40 years. He was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, a member of the PPR committee, the counting team, and an usher. He also served on the board of Prospect Cemetery. If you knew Barry, he always had a smile on his face and was friendly to every person he met. He never failed to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He shared a close bond with all of his Burkey Drive neighbors. He would always be seen outside with Jane, as they both loved landscaping and picking out flowers at the local greenhouses. If he wasn't outside with Jane, he would likely be seen with Shawn and Mary McCoy, helping in the backyard with their pet goats, chickens and ducks. Barry couldn't start his day without a coffee from Sheetz. Barry and Jane also would frequent the local restaurant, Traditions, where his favorite meal was chicken and waffles. Barry was lovingly called "Pap Pap" by his grandchildren. His granddaughters were always so happy and excited to see Pap Pap and Nana. Pap Pap would always play "monster" at the drop of a hat, chasing his granddaughters around the house and they loved going for ice cream and churros down the street. Barry's favorite Chicago meal was BBQ and finishing that off with their blueberry hand pie and vanilla ice cream. Barry was an avid fan of all Portage Mustang sports. He could be seen chatting with all of his friends in the stands at all of the home games, and would frequently travel to the away games. Friends received Monday, July 7, 2025, at Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, 614 Cambria St., Portage, PA, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Caldwell Avenue, Portage, PA. Interment, Prospect Cemetery, Portage, PA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Portage High School sports programs.
