Ebensburg, Pennsylvania - BYRNE - Bernadette A., 83, of Ebensburg, passed away July 5, 2026, at UPMC Altoona. Born February 18, 1943, in Spangler, daughter of the late Cletus and Frances Ruth (Wayne) Kirkpatrick. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Byrne; brothers, James, Leo Wayne, Lawrence Jerry, and Fr. Cletus Kirkpatrick; sisters, Barbara Fenchak, Mary Fenello, and Ruth Johnson. Survived by children, Cynthia Byrne, Ebensburg; Bobbi (Joshua Poertner) Byrne, Indianapolis; Julie (David) Kovach, Ebensburg; Brian (Victoria) Byrne, Hollidaysburg; and Susan (Jody Dumm) Byrne-Dumm, Nicktown; and 10 grandchildren. Also survived by her brother, John "Jack" Kirkpatrick, and sister, Kathleen Verchick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bernadette had worked many years as an X-ray Tech for Dr. Mastrine's office. She was a longtime member of Holy Name Catholic Church and spent time volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. Bernadette was well known for her baking which she loved to do. She loved her family and enjoyed visiting and spending time with all her children and grandchildren, as well as all her time spent with her canine companion "Molly." Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Church, Rev. Brian Warchola, celebrant. Committal, St. Benedict's Cemetery, Carrolltown. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Holy Name School Angel Fund, or to Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.
