Lilly, PA - Martynuska - Carmella C. "Carmie," 96, of Lilly, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at home with her family at her side. She was born on April 11, 1929, in Portage. Carmie was the daughter of Carmine and Bridget (Natale) DeMatteis. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur D. Martynuska, whom she married on January 2, 1954. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Nicolena "Lena" Kish, Marie "Betsy" Bowman and James DeMatteis. Carmie is survived by her loving children: Brenda, wife of Anthony Guzic, Sr., of Lilly; Cynthia, wife of Geoffrey Casher, of Savannah, Ga.; and Arturo Martynuska and his companion Beth Cassata, of Johnstown. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ian (Leigh) Casher, Elyse Casher, Michelle (Steve Hanechak III) Martynuska, Arthur "Nic" Martynuska and Anthony Guzic Jr. and great-grandchildren: Derik, Taryn, Sophia, Zoey, Eli and Eckley. Carmie was the sister of Michael DeMatteis and his wife Beverly (Miles), of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Patricia, wife of William Huber, of Montoursville, Pa. Carmie was a gentle woman with a kind heart that touched many lives. She had a good work ethic and was a strong business woman as a co-owner and operator of the Lilly Cut-Rate Drug Store with her husband Art for many years. Carmie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a woman of many talents, a great cook and she was also fluent in the Italian and French languages. The Martynuska Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. in Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church in Lilly, Fr. Matthew Reese, Celebrant, and Deacon Samuel Albarano. Committal in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Lilly. The Martynuska Family would like to give a special thank you to Carmie's caregivers, Maureen, Dee, Mary, Penn Hospice and their nurses, Nikki and Nicole and her friends and neighbors, both near and far for all their love, kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carmie's name to the Lilly Washington War Memorial Association, C/O 514 Willow Street, Lilly, PA 15938.
