On August 28, 2022, Daniel Paul Shuman passed away at his home in Cranberry Township, PA, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 62 years old.

Born on March 4, 1960 in Johnstown, PA, Dan was a devoted family man and a strong advocate for public education and unionism. He was a graduate of Blacklick Valley High School; earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Pittsburgh; and earned his Master of Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dan had an incredible work ethic and drive that helped him excel in his careers, both as a school teacher and union worker. Dan taught in the Penn Cambria School District and served as a football coach and girls basketball coach in the Blacklick Valley School District prior to starting his career with PSEA.

Dan was an avid sports fan who loved spending time traveling with his wife, attending local concerts, and hosting parties. He was the life of the party and got along with everyone who was blessed to have met him. He certainly lived his life to the fullest and will be missed by so many.

Dan is survived by his wife, Valerie Shuman, daughters, Kiley Shuman, Ashleigh Nadzam, and Samantha Megli, grandchildren, Emmalyn, Aaydin, Cecilia Megli and Norah Webster, mother, C. Sally Shuman, siblings Karen Pagano and James Shuman, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Shuman, and brother, David Shuman.

Dan was a very generous man who wanted to help everyone he could, even beyond his death; therefore, it is no surprise that he chose to donate his body to science.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Dan at a future date.
