Johnstown, Pennsylvania - ALTIMORE - Ernest, 86, of Johnstown, passed away on July 20, 2026, at Windber Woods. He was born on Oct. 15, 1939, in Johnstown, the son of Pasquale Altimore and Amelia (Caputo). He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Rosemary (Piro); infant daughter, Maria Lynn; sisters, Mary Paratore, Dorothy Golian,and Patsy Ann Bellay; brother, Richard Altimore; and several brothers-in-law. Survived by daughter, Gina Gross (Brett), of Windber; granddaughter, Natalie; siblings, Robert (Carol), Rita (Steve Bovino), and Barbara (Barry Fry); in-laws, Anthony Piro (Rita), Lucille Piro, and Francis Piro (Donna); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ernest was a proud graduate of Johnstown High School. He was very involved in his community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He especially enjoyed volunteering with the AAABA baseball tournament where he assisted with the ambassador program, preparing and parking the corvettes. Ernie was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Church in Woodvale. He and Rosemary made and sold soups and cannoli each year for the annual festival.

Ernie was known for his green thumb and enjoyed gardening in his free time. He loved spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed playing cards and other games. His favorite time of year was Christmas. He spent weeks baking breads, cookies, and cakes in preparation for the annual Christmas Eve dinner he and Rosemary hosted. Above all, he loved spending time with his granddaughter, Natalie, who was his greatest joy. Friends received from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Father George Gulash, 110 Maple Ave., Johnstown PA 15901.
