George Edwin Erwin, 96, of 339 E. Jamestown Rd., Greenville, PA, formerly of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away on Thursday morning, February 3, 2022 at St. Paul's Senior Living Community in Greenville, PA.
George was the 11th of 13 children born in E. Taylor Twp., PA on November 9, 1925 to the late John L. and Iva (Miller) Erwin.
He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill, NJ and held many positions including an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Trustee. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #130 in Haddonfield, NJ and a 30-year volunteer for the Girl Scouts.
He was a 1943 graduate of Conemaugh High School in Johnstown, PA. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII and re-enlisted to serve during the Korean Conflict. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a MS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University. George was employed as an electrical engineer for RCA in Gibbsboro, NJ until retirement.
He enjoyed reading, music, and gardening. He was very kind, a faithful reader of the Bible and always eager to keep learning. Most importantly, George was devoted and loyal to his family, providing for them during his working years and after retirement, caring for his wife and daughter, Meghan.
He was married to the former Joanna Rutledge Smith on June 7, 1953 in Johnstown, PA. They were married for 61 years before she preceded him in death on August 2, 2014.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia C. Erwin and her husband, Elvin East, of Delton, MI, Kerry L. Eidenmuller and her husband, Thomas, of Sandy Lake, PA; son, Shaun L. Erwin and his wife, Beckie, of Hermitage, PA; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Zapatochny of Naperville, IL, and Marlene Davis of Dupont, WA. Numerous nephews & nieces, and great nephews & nieces also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Meghan J. Erwin, and siblings: Jesse, Benjamin, Obert, Hazel, Verl, Laura Jane, Esther, Ada, Genevieve, and John.
No services will be held at this time. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Disposition: Cremation & Burial of Ashes in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA
