Ligonier, Pennsylvania - KOZAR - George Stephen, 72, died on May 6, 2025, peacefully at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA, with family members at his side. He was the oldest son of George and Mary (Muchesko) Kozar. George, a lifelong resident of Ligonier, was a 1971 graduate of Ligonier Valley High School. He also received a diploma in retail distribution from the Hiram G. Andrews Vocational Center in Johnstown, PA. He retired from the Rolling Rock Club after 30 plus years of dedicated service. George was a hard worker and was loved by all his colleagues at Rolling Rock and his friends in the Ligonier community. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Clough (Dr. Douglas F. Clough), and his brother, John Robert Kozar (Dr. Veronica Foschia Kozar). George will be lovingly remembered by his many cousins, and nieces and nephews - Kristen, Julia, Patricia, Anne, and John. He is also survived by grandnieces and grandnephew. Growing up across the street, George was active at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. He served as an altar boy for many years and attended summer retreats at the Christ the Savior Seminary, Johnstown, PA. He caddied summers at Laurel Valley Golf Club and particularly enjoyed his work during the National Team Championships. George loved sports, was an avid bowler, and closely followed the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. The family wants to thank all the kind and compassionate workers at the Valley Community Home in Ruffs Dale, PA. They lovingly cared for George in recent years. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Sunday, May 1,1 at the Snyder-Green Funeral Home in Ligonier from 6 to 8 pm. Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, May 12, at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Wilpen, PA, at 10 a.m. Burial following at the church cemetery.
