George John Wonders, long time resident of Tucson, Arizona, born June 23, 1938 in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania, left this world behind for his eternal rest on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 after a battle with Covid pneumonia. He is preceded in death by father, George Blair Wonder; mother, Twila Hudson Winder Wonder; a son, Scott Alan Wonders; and his second wife, Lennie L. Doan. He leaves behind siblings Jacqueline Verna Klock, William Leon Wonders, Raymond Dean Wonders and Robert Alan Wonders; daughter Deborah Dee Wonders Weaver; stepchildren Richard Bland and Sandra Sutton; first wife June Elizabeth Holben Grimmett; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren (to whom he was fondly known as "Pap"), and friends too numerous to count. George was not only devoted to his family but was also proud of his Naval career. He enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1956 and retired October 1977 as an E7 Electronics Technician Chief. He attended multiple training schools during his career and worked aboard four Navy ships. He was the recipient of numerous commendations including Navy Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Meritorious Unit Citation. He was a proud and active life member of the VFW post 549 in Tucson, Arizona as well as a member of the Tucson American Legion.

George was a down-to-earth man who lived a simple lifestyle, enjoyed simple pleasures, and possessed a giving nature and a fun-loving spirit. He enjoyed bowling and loved coaching and mentoring young people in bowling, he loved to dance and enjoyed socializing with his many friends. His fun-loving spirit prompted him to pen his own obituary several years ago and the family would like to share that with you:

One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was die since I've enjoyed life so much. But, alas, the body ages, wearies, then succumbs to death. No mourning, no tears, no regrets. Just tip a

glass and salute "cheers, George". It was a great ride.

George leaves a void in the lives of many and their lives are better for having known him.
