Gertrude  Volk
98, formerly of Loretto, died February 15, 2020 at Homewood at Martinsburg. Born February 26, 1921 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Joseph and Christina (Vogel) Karalfa. Preceded in death by husband, Gerard in 1987, and these brothers and sisters; Frank (Mildred), Mary Karalfa, Ruth Karalfa, Dorothy (Homer) Adams, and brother in law, Edward Hendrickson. Survived by children; Anne Volk of Loretto, Patricia (David) Ferrin of Johnstown, and Kevin (Tracy Ruggery) of R.D. Gallitzin, 2 grandchildren, Alyssa Volk (Scott Walker) and Chad Volk, sister, Ethel Hendrickson of Dallas, TX. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many extended family and friends. Toots enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, word puzzles, and Daniel O'Donnell music. She volunteered at St. Michael School cafeteria, Loretto for many years, and was a member of the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, Very Rev. John D. Byrnes, Celebrant. Committal, St. Michael Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 until 8 PM Wednesday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613, where a Vigil Service will be held Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Basilica of St. Michael, P.O. Box 10, Loretto, PA 15940 of the Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhasset Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050 in Toots' memory.
