89, of Loretto, Munster Township, passed away on March 9, 2025 at home. She was born on November 5, 1935, in Munster Township. Hazel was the daughter of Raymond Sr. and Margaret (Shaw) Freidhof. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ermin F. Wirfel; her brothers: Henry, Thomas, Paul "Kutch," Raymond Jr. "Goob" and George "Worm" Freidhof; and her sisters: Ethel "Tillie" Gressick, Margaret "Peg" Gailey and Mary "Marze" Springer; and son-in-law: Carl Gressick. Hazel is survived by her children: Veronica "Vicki," wife of Michael Krug, of Munster; Randy Wirfel, of Loretto; Barbara, wife of Ronald Schrift, of New Germany; David Wirfel and wife Donna (Zupon), of Munster; Tony Wirfel and wife Shelby (Scanlan), of Loretto; and Kevin Wirfel and wife Vickie (Schrift), of Munster; and 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Hazel is also survived by her siblings: Jane Kiel, of Munster; Janet Knapp (John) and Dorothy "Doat" (Regis) Lee; and sisters and brother-in-law: Jane Freidhof, Jim Gailey, Margaret Freidhof. At Hazel's request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of St. Michael in Loretto, Fr. John Byrnes, celebrant. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Hazel's name to the Basilica of St. Michael, PO Box 10, Loretto, PA 15940 and/or UPMC Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, PA 16601.
