John W. Matey
"Doc", 85, Richland, passed away November 15, 2019. Born July 20, 1934 in Windber. Son of John J. and Frances (Adamets) Matey. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Richard "Dick" Matey and William "Bill" Matey and their wives. Survived by wife, Kathleen (Dolan) Matey; children, Diane and JD Roskos of New Cumberland, PA; Denise and Mike Gordish of Huntersville, NC and Robert and Amy Matey of Raleigh, NC and grandchildren, Parker Gordish, Avery Gordish, Jackson Matey and Cole Matey. U.S. Army Veteran having served in Germany. Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown, Gautier Division with 43 years of service. John's favorite hobbies included reading fiction novels, putting together puzzles, spending time with family, and going to garage sales with his wife of 52 years. Lifelong member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Windber where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Reverend Roderick N. Soha, Pastor. Interment, Church Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors by Windber VFW Ritual Team. Friends received 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber where vigil for the deceased will be held.
