Windber, PA - 88, Windber, passed away May 10, 2025 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born March 23, 1937 in Windber, son of the late Francis L. and Lois B. (Reddecliff) Sloan. Preceded in death by wife of 63 years, Marilyn Kay (Manges) Sloan; daughter, Kimberly Jury; sister, Jessie Luckhart; and brothers-in-law, Dick Luckhart, Thomas Lehman and Don Quinn. Survived by loving son, Robert J. Sloan and companion, Susan Maust; grandchildren, Krystal married to Erik Smith; Justin Sloan and companion, Kim; Julie married to Matt Ulatsky; and Jesse Sloan and companion, Alexandra; great-grandchildren, Anna, Abigail and Audrey Smith; Sloan and Blaire Ulatsky; and Kylee Sloan; daughter-in-law, Carol Sloan; brother, Thomas Sloan; sisters, Yvonne Lehman and Lois Quinn; also by numerous nieces and nephews. John had a long career working in the Ford auto industry. He finished his working years at Penn Metals before retiring to spend time with his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time outside and gardening. He was an avid NASCAR fan who always cheered on anyone driving a Ford, and he never turned down a trip to the casino. John was a member of Rummel Church of the Brethren where he was a member of the choir for many years. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 14th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home of Windber. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th at Rummel Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Abby Shaffer, officiating. Committal to follow at Berkey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in honor of John.
