NYANKO – Joseph L. “Pappy Joe,” “Joey,” 89, Lower Yoder Township, died Nov. 8, 2010, at his residence. Born Aug. 22, 1921, in Johnstown, son of Charles and Margaret (Bacha) Nyanko. Joseph was the last surviving member of his family. Preceded in death by parents; great-grandson; sisters, Anna Balaschak, Madaline Strippy, Martha Tully, Rose Hrebella and Dorothy O’Connor; brothers, Bernard, Frank and Vincent Nyanko; and son-in-law, Richard Ombres. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, the former Rose Kalcic; children, Rita, Pittsburgh; Joseph P., married to the former Deborah Reighard, Johnstown; and Mary Jean, wife of Rick Petrore, Johnstown; grandchildren, Joseph D. Nyanko, and wife, Patte; Daniel Nyanko, and wife, Michelle; and Rachel Ombres; and great-grandchildren, Paige, Hannah, Lindsay, Allison, Serena and Lilly. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Member of the former St. Rochus Catholic Church and member of Resurrection Parish. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and retired from the Gautier Division of Bethlehem Steel Corp. He loved spending time in the outdoors with family and his granddogs. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who knew him. His happy-go-lucky attitude will be missed by all. Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad St., where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection parish, Father Alan Thomas, pastor. Committal, Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum.
