95, of Lilly was called to his eternal rest Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at UPMC-Altoona following a brief illness. Joe has called Amber Hills, Ebensburg, his home since February 26, 2014. Born March 11, 1921 in Lilly Coal, son of the late John and Elizabeth (Minick) Suchta. Preceded in death by wife, Irene "Tootsie" Gelletta) in 2013; and brothers, infant John, Andy, George and Paul; and sister, Margaret Slebodnik. Beloved father to Joanne, wife of Bill Dunmyer, Lilly; Theresa "Te", wife of David Przybys, SC; and TJ, Lilly. Devoted pap to special granddaughter, Danielle Dunmyer. Survived by brother, Steve and wife, Mary Ann (George) Suchta and sister-in-law, Margaret Strasser, Gallitzin; brother-in-law, Robert (Frances) Gelletta and John (Shirley) Gelletta, Michigan. Also numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Joe had been a life long coal miner starting his career with Lilly Coal, CA Hughes #3 until enlistment in the Army Air Corps where he was assigned to European Theater of Operations stationed in France obtaining rank of Staff Sergeant where he received many awards, including a Battlestar for the Northern France campaign. Upon return from military duty, during the Korean conflict as a special investigator at Hill AFB, Utah. After discharge from active duties, he resumed work at CA Hughesand later with Cooney Brothers Coal Company until his retirement. Joe was a life time member of Bear Rock Sportsman Assoc. serving as a past officer and life long member of Lilly American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, photography and was an avid sports fan.. He also coached American Legion baseball and was a member of Our Ladies of The Alleghenies Catholic Church, Lilly. Relatives and friends received Friday Nov. 25, 2016 4 to 8 p.m. at Thomas F. Cloherty Funeral Home, Lilly where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass Saturday November 26, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Chapel, Portage Street, Lilly PA. Rev. Msgr. John R. Sasway, celebrant. Military rites by Lilly American Legion and Lilly V.F.W.
