Nanty Glo, Pa - Katherine "Honey" Berdomas Soyka

SOYKA - Katherine, 93, Nanty Glo, passed away February 9, 2026, at McCullough Place, Johnstown, Pa. Born at home on Ivory Hill, February 16, 1932, daughter of the late George and Ella (Petrilla) Berdomas. Preceded in death by husband, Michael A. Soyka, Jr. who she was married to for 59 years; and sisters, Carmen DeYulis, Margaret Russell and Mary Orsini. Survived by children, George "Chooch" (Mona), Nanty Glo; Gregory (Mary Kay), Sewickley, Pa.; Mary Lynn (Robert) Marines, Melborne, Fla.; Michael (Kathleen), Lewes, Del.; and Brian (Vickie), Ebensburg; grandchildren, Nicole Rummel; Jocelyn Divido; Jessica Montagnese; Matthew Soyka; Mitchell, Noah and Luke Marines; Michael and Benjamin Soyka; and John, Bobby, Jack and Marlow Soyka; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Sister of Delores Kopenitz; George Berdomas; Joseph (Jean) Berdomas; and Donna (Marco) DeRubis; and numerous nieces and nephews. And very close friends, Eugene Ostinowsky and Mike Warmus.

Katie was a longtime member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Nanty Glo. She retired from the former Laurel Crest Manor where she worked for many years as Activities Coordinator. Katie was very proud of representing her co-workers as Union Business Manager for Local 1304 of the Laborers' International Union. She graduated from Nanty Glo High School and enjoyed planning many class reunions. Katie had the biggest heart, was very witty, and had an unforgettable laugh. She was deeply loved by many and will be very missed. Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Bowser Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where Parastas will be at 5 p.m. Final Farewell will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, Fr. Robert F. Oravetz, the Celebrant. Interment to follow in Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg.
