Keith D. Askins

Askins, Keith Duane, 62, Cresson, entered into the heavenly kingdom on Thursday, August 10, 2023, unexpectedly in Hancock, MD after suffering a medical emergency. Keith was born in Mount Vernon, Washington on June 3, 1961, to Donald Eugene Askins and Carolyn Coleen (McCann) Herrington. He married the love of his life, Denise (Boast) Askins, on September 24, 1981, in Junction City, Kansas. In addition to his wife, Keith is survived by his children: Jennifer (Jeff) Heil, of Fredericksburg, VA; Carl (Cheri) Askins, of Cresson, PA; and Courtney Askins, at home; eight grandchildren: Nikolajis, Thomas Jr., Isabella, Isaiah, Maximus, Svetlana, Tatiana, and Ashton; two sisters, Susan (Nick) Perry, of Evergreen, NC; and Debra (Darren) Dickinson, of Chicago, Ill; one brother, Michael (Kristi) Askins, of Wichita, KS. He's also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; stepmother, Donna; his older brother, Leland, who passed tragically at only seventeen-years old; and his unborn grandson, Gabriel Keith Heil, who passed away shortly before him. Keith joined the US Army in 1979, as a heavy-duty truck mechanic, where he not only proudly served his country but also met his wife, Denise. After leaving the military, he worked as a diesel truck mechanic before spending the last twenty-five years of his life as an OTR truck driver. He was employed by Carbon Express out of Wharton, NJ. Keith was a dedicated grandfather; he was proud of his grandkids athletic and academic accomplishments. If he wasn't at one of his grandkid's events, you could find him tackling another home improvement project — they never ended! There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix or build. He enjoyed teaching his grandsons how to also build and fix things. If he wasn't passing on knowledge or giving them advice, he was doting on his three beautiful granddaughters whom he adored so much. Keith was devoted until the very end to his wife of almost 42 years before their love story ended. He was a hard worker who kept on truckin' until the very end. Keith's work ethic was unmatched — it was rare to see him at rest. He died on his feet, and it's the way he said he wanted to go, and that's the way he went the day his Father called him home.
