Kenneth H. &x22Mr. D.&x22 Dempsey Obituary

DEMPSEY – Kenneth H. “Mr. D.,” 87, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord May 30, 2010. Born Sept. 7, 1922, in Aliquippa, son of Matthew Lovett and Ida Mae (Hill) Dempsey. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Matthew and Harold Dempsey. Survived by nieces, Lanette (Dempsey) Simmons and Cecilia (Dempsey) Atterbury; cousins, Marguerite M. Ferguson, Clarice E. Willoughby and Judge Alfred J. Dempsey; close friend and faithful companion, Ida Andrews; and lifelong friend, Bill Rozier. Mr. Dempsey graduated from Aliquippa High School and then joined the Army, having served overseas in World War II with the 92nd Infantry Division, honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He acquired many associate degrees in social sciences, including bookkeeping and accounting, and also in engineering and elementary education. He served as a trustee for Mount Sinai Baptist Church and also with Cambria County Community Action Council and as class president with the Hiram G. Andrews Center. “Mr. D.” retired as a case worker from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Family and friends will be received from 9 a.m. until time of homegoing service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 111 Cambria Ave., East Conemaugh, the Rev. Jeremiah Hunter, pastor; the Rev. Julius Porcher; and the Rev. Calvin McCray, officiating. Committal, Headricks Union Cemetery. Moskal Funeral Home, West End, is in charge of arrangements.
