Johnstown, PA - HOCKENSMITH[mdash] Larry D. "Horse," 82, of Geistown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 8, 2026. Born Jan. 26, 1944, in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Jesse and Irene Hockensmith. Larry was the beloved husband of Jeanne (Kostro) Hockensmith, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife; sons, Brian (Stephanie), Matthew (Kierisa), and Greg (Melanie); grandchildren, Alex (girlfriend Angeline), Leah (Bailey Porter), Thomas, Levi, Caleb, Brenna, Ryland, Brayden, Rowen, and Brilee; great-grandchildren, Lilah and Joey; and siblings, Sylvia Fetzer (Richard, deceased) Tom (Mary Jo), Susan (Dan Shearer), and Debbie (Jerry Jerome). Larry proudly served in the Army National Guard and retired after more than 40 years as a steelworker at Johnstown's Rod and Wire. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Known for his generous spirit and willingness to help others, he will be remembered by many as a man whose "heart was as big as he was." Family and friends will be received Sunday, July 12, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Home, Frankstown Road, Johnstown. A viewing will be held Monday, July 13, at 10 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., "Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care."
