Leona Frances Bowser Obituary

Windber, PA - 86, Windber, peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2025, at home surrounded by her family in Mine #37, Windber, Pa. Born January 4, 1939, in Windber, Pa., daughter of the late Clemens J. and Mary H. (Wozny) Nadonley. Preceded in death by her husband, James Irvin Bowser Sr. after 65 years of marriage, son of the late Irvin and Pauline (Weaver) Bowser; also by brothers, Clemens and Leonard Nadonley; sister-in-law, Blanche Nadonley; brothers-in-law, Steve Weaver and Dave Schmadel; also by close friends, Julia Kostro; Joyce Upson; Ted and Irene Glosky. Survived by sons, Edwin (wife Danna Bevec), of Johnstown; Eugene (wife Christina Goch), of Johnstown; Eric (wife Amy Edwards), of Windber; and James Jr., of Windber; grandchildren who all loved their "Mamaw," Ashley Bowser, of North Carolina; Joshua Bowser, of Johnstown, Pa.; Zachary Bowser (wife Hayden), of Cleveland, Ohio; Alicia Ciarimboli (husband Brenan), of Johnstown, Pa.; Alaina Bowser, of West Chester, Pa.; and Logan Bowser (wife Ally), of Altoona, Pa.; great-grandson, Hudson James, of Altoona, Pa.; great-granddaughter, Sophia Jean, of Johnstown, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Bowser) (Ray Baumgardner); Becky (Bowser) (Jerry Vogel); Barabara "Punky" (Bowser) Weaver; Lola "Louise" (Bowser) (Ed Damico); Lana "Gay" (Bowser) (Joseph Sepp); Sue (Bowser) Schmadel; Pauline Nadonley; also by numerous nieces and nephews and by close friends of our mother and the family, Andrew Peterson, Edith "Tita" Vitez, the Morbit's, the Clark's, Fyzical Therapy, Gray Associates and many friends of Mine #37. Leona worked at Bestform where she was a seamstress. Leona was dedicated to her family, a generous neighbor, loved wrestling, cooking Polish food for her family and listening to "Mollie B" singing Polkas. She was a Richland elementary wrestling booster officer in the 1980s. Leona was devoted to her family and was a friend to many. Her favorite two sayings with a smile were "Don't take any wooden nickels" and "Dziekuje, dziekuje, dziekuje" (Polish - Thank you, thank you, thank you). To "Mamaw," family always came first, she was selfless and always made time for her family. She will be deeply missed. The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Windber Hospice, especially Danielle, for their compassion and caring as well as to Leona's caregivers, Phyllis and Cheryl. She will be deeply missed. The Bowser family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 12, at Meek and Dalla Valle Funeral Home, 1312 Graham Avenue, Windber, where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 13, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 605 Graham Avenue, Windber. Committal at 11:30 a.m., Richland Cemetery, 1257 Scalp Avenue, Johnstown. Flowers are appreciated but also in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Windber Hospice.
