Johnstown, Pennsylvania - It is with great sadness that the family of Louis Angelo DeFazio announces his passing on July 10, 2026, at Horizons Personal Care at the Villa Crest in Johnstown.

Lou was born on July 29, 1947, in Johnstown to the late Angelo and Olive Marie (Stockdill) DeFazio. A 1965 graduate of Johnstown High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in electrical engineering, Lou dedicated 50 years of his career to Penelec, retiring in 2019. In his youth, he also played for the Monte Carlo in the 1966 AAABA Tournament.

Lou was a deeply active member of the community. He served as the treasurer for Westmont Methodist Church and volunteered at the Franklin Street Food Pantry. For over 30 years, he was the volunteer statistician for the Johnstown Chiefs and the Johnstown Tomahawks. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed traveling with his brothers to visit 163 hockey arenas and 83 minor league baseball stadiums.

In 2006, Lou joined fellow hockey enthusiasts and friends Dave Ziegler, Mike Piskuric, and Mike Starchok as a team of researchers gathering historical information for the 2007 publication of Slap Shots and Snapshots: 50 Seasons of Pro Hockey in Johnstown, written and edited by Chip Minemyer and Mike Mastovich.

Lou will be forever remembered for his humility, quick wit, beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor, kindness, and philanthropic generosity to many local non-profits.

He is survived and will be sadly missed by his brothers, Thomas DeFazio and John DeFazio, both of Johnstown; his cousin, Roberta Burns, of Altoona; and his dear friends, Bob Page, Bob Lohr, Mike Starchok, Patti Griffith, Blaine Gjurich, Ted and Claudia, his "caring caregivers," and many others.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to his dedicated caregivers — Misty Thomas, Maja Lumpkin, Stacy Steiner, Jazmine Altschuh, and Danielle Rish — as well as the staff at Horizons Personal Care at Villa Crest, Aseracare Hospice staff and management, the staff at McCullough Place, and Eileen Graham of EG Associates Group Elder Care Advisor for their exceptional guidance, care, and dedication.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 3-7 p.m. at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Private Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery.
