Marian E. (Burkhart) Smith
1946 - 2026
79, of Hollsopple, passed away January 23, 2026, at Quality of Life Services in Westmont. She was born November 3, 1946, in Somerset, daughter of John Burkhart and Anna Mae (Koch) Burkhart Stahl. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Sylvester and Alice Burkhart, who raised Marian; stepmother, Eva Burkhart; stepfather, Stuart Stahl; sisters, Darlene (Stahl) Werner and Susanna (Burkhart) Hites; brother, Donald Stahl; and son-in-law, Glenn Statler. Survived by husband of 58 years, Kenneth D. Smith; daughters, Michelle A. Speigle and husband Dave, and Melissa A. Statler and significant other Tom Croyle; grandchildren, Lorna and Ellie Speigle and McKensi and Dawson Statler; sisters, Bonnie (Burkhart) Bruscha and husband Larry, and Tammy (Burkhart) Townsend; brothers, Dave Burkhart and wife Arlene, and James Burkhart and wife Sue, and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Marian was a 1964 graduate of Meyersdale High School and a 1965 graduate of Lou and Sal's Beauty School of Cosmetology in Southgate, Mich. She was employed at the Presbyterian Home of Johnstown and Laurel View Village and was an aerobics instructor. She was a member of Crossroads Community Church in Richland.
She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, taking care of her pets and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. Marian was very caring and friendly; always willing to help anyone in need. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved being around people. The family would like to thank the staff of Quality of Life Services and 365 Hospice for all their compassionate care and support. Viewing from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until time of service 11 a.m. Friday at Crossroads Community Church, 1259 Scalp Ave., Johnstown, with Pastor Tom Croyle presiding. Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
